Cydnidae - Dallasiellus californicus
Family Cydnidae
Dallasiellus californicus Size: 9 mm Group Guild Status Trogloxene Herbivore Rare This species is not uncommon in cave entrance areas in southern Arizona. They are feeders on plant roots, and occur in cave entrance areas associated with roots that penetrate cave interiors where the cave overburden is shallow. We consider D. californicus to be a trogloxene in the cave and not an accidental since its occurrence in caves is within its natural habitat, associated with roots, which by chance have penetrated the cave. This species was recorded from a single adult found at the bottom of the Jackrabbit Shaft on April 9, 2011. This species is a new record for the cave. |
