Sphecidae - Chlorion aerarium
Order Hymenoptera
Family Sphecidae Chlorion aerarium Size: Approximately 25 mm Group Guild Status Trogloxene Predator Rare This species was found as a single dead individual in the Jackrabbit Room on November 27, 2009. This species is a cricket hunter, and may have been attracted to the songs of the field crickets (Gryllus multipulsator) in the Jackrabbit Shaft area. Since it is probable that the presence of this wasp was the result of its hunting for prey in the cave, we consider this occurrence of C. aerarium to be a trogloxene in the cave. |
